Glenavon FC lost 3-2 away to Dundela in a match overshadowed by a serious injury to goalkeeper Lorcan Donnelly, who was taken to hospital after a lengthy stoppage.

Matthew Ferguson, son of former Glenavon legend Glenn Ferguson, scored a hat-trick for the hosts. He opened the scoring from the penalty spot after just 90 seconds, having been fouled by Peter Maguire. Dundela doubled their lead shortly after when Benny Igiehon blasted a cross past Donnelly.

Alex Watson pulled a goal back for Glenavon after 32 minutes, but Ferguson completed his treble early in the second half, finishing past substitute keeper Mark Byrne. Jude Johnson scored Glenavon's second with 13 minutes remaining, setting up a frantic finish.

Donnelly injury halts play

The game's major talking point came in the first half when goalkeeper Lorcan Donnelly sustained a dreadful injury. He landed awkwardly after claiming a cross under pressure from Igiehon and remained on the turf for almost thirty minutes before being removed to the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald. Mark Byrne replaced him between the posts.

Glenavon dominated large periods of the game after the injury break and created numerous chances to equalise. Paddy Burns headed wide from a Peter Campbell free-kick early on, and Ryan Waide shot over from close range. After the restart, Burns saw another header saved by Dundela keeper G. Walker, while Brandon Doyle struck the underside of the crossbar twice in quick succession. In injury time, Walker produced a fine fingertip save to deny Doyle again.

Despite the late pressure, Dundela held on for the win. The result means Glenavon's recent form reads two wins, two draws and one defeat from their last five outings.
