Glenavon FC manager Michael O'Connor is confident his team can secure three points away to Moyola Park this Saturday. The third-placed Lurgan Blues travel to Mill Meadow for a 6pm kick-off in the BOYLE Sports Championship.
O'Connor watched Moyola's recent 1-0 win over Queen's University but noted their inconsistency, including a 6-2 defeat at Warrenpoint Town. "Moyola have been very inconsistent," the Glenavon boss said. "They have drawn with Ards and beaten Queen’s recently yet lost 6-2 at Warrenpoint just before that."
His confidence stems from Glenavon's own recent form, which has yielded 17 points from nine games. A key moment was the 4-1 comeback win over Loughgall last Friday, where a half-time tactical switch to a 4-4-2 with wingers Jude Johnson and Peter Campbell turned the game. Luke McGerrigan, playing in a deeper role, controlled the midfield after Loughgall saw two red cards, while top scorer Ryan Waide came off the bench to net twice.
O'Connor hopes the trip to Castledawson can improve Glenavon's away results, having lost 3-2 at Dundela earlier in September. "I think it is all about us," he stated. "If we are brave and take the game to them in the manner we have in most of our matches so far, we are good enough to score more goals than them and pick up all three points."
The manager highlighted the threat posed by Moyola striker Parkhouse and a combative midfield, but believes his squad has the answers. Glenavon's full upcoming schedule is available on our fixtures page, while the latest league standings show they sit just three points off the top. The match kicks off at Mill Meadow on Saturday 3rd October.
